The idea grew from a personal family experience and a simple question: can technology make familiar savings practices more organised, transparent and easier to follow?
Years ago, a family member saved faithfully with a susu company. When concerns about the company began to spread, she went to ask for her savings and was told to return the next day. When she did, the premises were locked and the company had disappeared with the money.
The loss caused serious hardship and became a lasting reminder of how important transparency, visibility and accountability are when people entrust their savings to a system.
SusuWave is being built to support familiar saving practices with clearer records, better coordination and stronger shared visibility while keeping the pilot non-custodial.
During the pilot, members pay the group's appointed Treasurer directly. SusuWave records and coordinates the contribution and payout process while the funds remain under the group's control.
SusuWave is currently being prepared for a controlled pilot with family, friends and selected susu groups in Ghana.
Pilot registration details will be announced here soon.
